PUPPY CLASSES
Here at the Floreat Veterinary Centre, we believe Puppy Preschool is an important part of the development of well-adjusted dogs. The first 16 weeks of life are critical for a puppy's social development, it is important they interact with many different people and puppies so they can learn how to behave appropriately. Puppy Preschool provides a safe environment in which this socialisation can occur.

Veterinary nurse Emily runs our classes on a weekly basis. The course consists of four classes covering the topics of Health Care, Canine Behaviour, Responsible Pet Ownership and Puppy Training. Each week there is a different puppy handling exercise as well as time to practice training techniques.

Puppy Preschool provides an excellent opportunity to discuss any puppy problems you are having with veterinary staff as well as other puppy owners.
Preschool classes are held every Sunday at the clinic from 10 to 11am. Registration for the complete four week course is only $44.
To attend classes each puppy must have received their first vaccination and be 6-16 weeks of age at the first class.

MICROCHIPPING - LIFELONG IDENTIFICATION
Many of our clients know the panic and worry experienced when a pet goes missing. We recommend microchipping to provide permanent identification of your animals.

A microchip is a metallic implant the size of a grain of rice that is imprinted with a code. The code is stored on a central computer which carries all your details and can be updated at any time. The microchip is implanted under the skin of your pet where it cannot be removed. Most vet clinics and councils carry a scanner and lost pets are routinely scanned to pick up microchips.
GROOMING
Regular grooming of your pets coat is an important part of maintaining a healthy coat. This is especially important if your pet is long haired to keep the coat tangle and knot free. It also rids the coat of excess hair and promotes healthy blood circulation. Not only is it good for your pets coat but it is also great quality time spent with your pet. If a professional groom is what your pet requires you can book them for doggy day spa with one of our Groomer.

Proper grooming is an important part of pet care. It not only makes a companion animal look better, but contributes to his or her physiological and psychological health.
1. Grooming your dog accomplishes much more than just making your pet's coat look nice and shiny. It will provide us the opportunity to spend some "quality time" with your dog, combing, brushing, bathing and generally bonding.
2. We will be able to check your dog closely for any problems while grooming. We will examine the skin closely for signs of flea, ticks or skin irritations, and will look for any unusual problems with the coat such as mats, tangles, dandruff, etc. Mats and tangles can be carefully removed while grooming.
3. All dogs have sensitive areas that need to be groomed a little more gently and carefully than others. By paying special attention to these areas, we will help make your dog more comfortable while being groomed, and he will not resist future grooming sessions.
We will let your dog sniff the brush and comb before grooming, and then talk to your pet in a reassuring tone of voice.

Regular grooming is essential to your dog's health and well being.

Regular combing and brushing will keep the coat clean and healthy.
It will stimulate the skin, and allow the natural oils to circulate to the coat.
It will also allow us to carefully check for potentially serious problems.
Check areas for hair loss, inflammations, unusual tenderness or lumps under the skin. Constant scratching in a particular area may also be an indication of a problem. Check with your veterinarian about any unusual problems found.
